Captain James McFarlane was the leader of the 500 + anti-Federalists who went to
 Bower Hill (General Neville's home) on July 17, 1794, to demand Neville's resignation and
 tax records.  Neville was not present that morning (to quiet the crowd, perhaps, by not being
 seen).  We wonder if Neville and U S Marshal David Lenox did not take refuge at St. Luke's
Church.  Someone fired the shot that day that did mortally wound MacFarlane, and the crowd
became a mob and burned Bower Hill down.  It is not wrong to imagine that MacFarlane and
the other anti-Federalists focused their anger on Neville.   ...Canon Richard Davies
