The Whiskey Rebellion 1791-1794
When Hamilton instituted a hated excise tax on whiskey to raise revenue for the new national government, his act also tested the new constitution and Bill of Rights, and established precedents for the Office of President. The epicenter of this test was the Chartiers valley and a member of Old St. Lukes - General John Neville.

Learn how all the items are related during the time of the 1794 Whiskey Rebellion. Alexander Hamilton's ill-devised tax caused a split in the membership of Old St. Lukes by dividing the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists.  

The Disestablishment of the Church
Thomas Jefferson and James Madison also declared independence of the citizens from the Established Church in the colonies.  Old St. Lukes did not escape the ramifications of this bold move in the 1780's.
